Fresh Strawberry Snow Cones
How to Make Strawberry Snow Cones with Fresh Strawberry Syrup
There’s nothing quite like an icy snow cone on a hot day, and this fresh strawberry version makes the classic summer treat even better. Instead of bottled flavoring, this recipe starts with real strawberries simmered into a simple homemade syrup, then poured over crushed ice for a bright, fruity dessert that feels extra refreshing.
This recipe is inspired by the Strawberry Snow Cone served at Delgadillo’s Snow Cap Drive-In in Seligman, Arizona, a longtime Route 66 stop.

Ingredients
1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
1/4 cup sugar, or to taste
1/4 cup water
Crushed ice
Instructions:
Step 1
Add the strawberries, sugar, and water to a saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the berries soften and the sugar has dissolved, about 5 to 7 minutes.
Step 2
Allow the strawberry mixture to cool slightly, then blend until smooth. For an extra-smooth syrup, pour it through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the seeds.
Step 3
Refrigerate the strawberry syrup until cold.
Step 4
Fill a cup or snow-cone cup with crushed ice, then generously drizzle the chilled strawberry syrup over the top. Serve right away while the ice is frosty and refreshing.
MOM Tip
For the smoothest snow cone, crush the ice as finely as you can so the syrup spreads evenly instead of sinking straight to the bottom.
If your strawberries are especially sweet, start with less sugar and adjust to taste, as the original recipe allows.
You can also strain the blended syrup if your family prefers a seed-free texture. Keep the syrup chilled until you’re ready to assemble the snow cones so everything stays nice and cold.
Serving Ideas
This fresh salad works beautifully as a light lunch on its own, or serve it alongside grilled chicken, salmon, shrimp, rice bowls, or other Asian-inspired dishes. The combination of crunchy vegetables, creamy avocado, and sesame dressing also makes it a refreshing side for warm-weather meals.
